chrome screen If you don’t know what Google Chrome is, it’s Google’s first foray into the browser world. I’ve only been using it for a short while, considering it came out today. So far I have to say it’s pretty cool. Read more after the break to hear why.

One of Google’s lesser known tools, I have found Google Notebook to be very helpful to me in school.  It installs as an extension on Firefox for Windows, Mac, and Linux.  Additionally, it is available as a plugin for Internet Explorer 6.  Unofortunately, there is no support for Internet Explorer 7, Safari, or other browsers.  The point of Google Notebook is that you can save websites, or highlight selections of text, or select an image to save to a central Google server.  There you can organize your web clipping into notebooks, append notes onto those clips, or write notes down on the whole notebook in general.  Because all this information is stored online, I can access this data from any computer with an internet connection.  Google Notebook has proven to be an invaluable tool for researching school papers and writing articles for this website.  Students would do themselves a favor by trying out Google Notebook this school year.

Picasa Logo SealI like Google, along with most of the software it  has rolled out over the years. One of the gems Google has released is Picasa2, a free fully featured photo organizer. Its the best photo organizer I’ve used on Windows, that’s why it’s the first program to receive our brand new seal of approval, this does not mean previously reviewed programs are not as good, but we just came up with the seal. Read on after the break to find out more about Picasa2.

image We’ve mentioned gOS on the site before, the Ubuntu based, Google software laden gem of the low end PC market. I decided to give the liveCD a try, if you don’t know, a liveCD is a good way of testing a Linux distribution without making any changes to your hard drive. Before testing I thought gOS would be good, solely based on the fact its built off of Ubuntu, which is great. After testing gOS I realize it’s even better than i had expected. Read on after the jump to find out why.

Not so much tech news as it is just plain awesome. The Google Olympic Games Site integrates Google Maps with a few new Olympic-related features. You can see a map that shows medal counts over countries, or another map that shows all the Olympic stadiums. The last map is labeled “events” and doesn’t show anything yet but I’m sure we can expect it to be awesome. There’s also a gadget that you can add to your Google homepage that displays similar information, I know I’ll be watching it cheering for the USA.

If you haven’t heard of gOS yet then you’re missing out. It’s an Ubuntu based version of Linux that relies heavily on Google products. The “g” in gOS doesn’t stand for Google though, it stands for “Good”, don’t get confused and think that Google makes it, because they don’t. It comes pre-installed on those cheap Everex computers that Walmart sells. Read on after the jump to find out more.
