Rumor Mill: New iPods, MacBooks imminent?Posted by: Luofei in Rumor Mill, tags: Apple, iPod, Laptops, Mac, MacBook, MP3 PlayersThese rumors have been kicking around for awhile now, but there are some new developments as of late. Also, I have spoken with certain resellers who provided some insight into a possible timeline for the release of possible new iPods and MacBooks. Apple usually announces new iPods around the end of September to be ready for the holiday season. Expect the same this year. Most likely it will happen after September 15th, as that is when the Free iPod with a Mac back to school promotion ends. Recent rumors say the new nano will be taller and less wide with a display to match. The proportions will be rather like the flash Zune. One person has also claimed that the design of the new nano will be “curvy”. The new iPod touch will probably not look all that different, but more storage and some new features is likely. As for the new MacBooks, I have heard from a reseller that they do not expect a new MacBook to be available until early October. This was based off what they of the supply of laptops available. Again, it would make sense for Apple to release something after the back to school promotion ends. Acer has just annouced that the Aspire One will be getting a price cut; making one of the better netbooks out there an even sweeter deal. The Windows XP model will now sell for $349 (down from $399), while the Linux model will sell for $329 (from $379). There will also be a version with a larger 6-cell battery and Windows XP for $399. If you are interested in a 8.9″ screened netbook, these prices are pretty enticing.

New Dell Latitudes announcedPosted by: Luofei in Tech News, tags: Dell, Laptops, PC, Windows
As widely expected, Dell has finally announced the new E series line of Latitude corporate laptops to replace the previous D series. The Latitude line is popular among large business and colleges, so this could the next computer for many a college student or businessman. The new E series looks much nicer and less dull than the outgoing D series. The new laptops have a nice amalgam of the latest features borrowed from other manufacturers in classic Dell form. These include but are not limited to backlit keyboard, external SATA port, USB PowerShare to charge devices even when the computer is turned off, and a pre-boot OS called Latitude ON.
