The Asus Eee PC 1000HE was very well-received when it first came out. However, most reviewers only get to spend a few weeks with a device. That is just barely enough time to become accustomed to a device.
I have spent the past two months using the Eee PC 1000HE almost every day. Now, I am finally ready to report my findings.

The already crowded laptop market has recently seen a new class of entrants. The new products belong to a segment called budget thin-and-lights, or CULV (consumer ultra-low voltage) laptops if you listen to Intel. Meant to sit between the super low-price netbooks and high-dollar ultraportables, like the MacBook Air, these new notebooks (which lack optical drives) are aimed at students and frequent travelers who want an affordable and light laptop, but need something more full-sized and full-powered than a netbook.

Larry Ellison, the co-founder and CEO of Oracle, indeed saw this whole netbook/nettop trend coming, 8 years too soon. In 2000, Ellison thought the time was right for a PC replacement that could access the internet and do little else. He imagined that all work would be done in the browser and data would be stored on servers somewhere [in the cloud]. Sound familiar?

Already forgotten by most people, the Foleo was Palm’s stillborn failure to expand beyond smartphones. Ironically enough, if Palm had produced the Foleo, it would have been ahead of the curve on the forthcoming netbook trend. With a few changes, the Foleo could be very successful in the current marketplace.
