An Ode to Trackballs

A lot of people think I am weird for liking trackballs, but those people very obviously have never really tried using a trackball for their mousing needs.  In fact, except for specific purposes, like gaming, I consider trackballs to be the superior way of mousing.

Mega-Netbooks: the new wave of budget thin-and-lights

The already crowded laptop market has recently seen a new class of entrants.  The new products belong to a segment called budget thin-and-lights, or CULV (consumer ultra-low voltage) laptops if you listen to Intel.  Meant to sit between the super low-price netbooks and high-dollar ultraportables, like the MacBook Air, these new notebooks (which lack optical drives) are aimed at students and frequent travelers who want an affordable and light laptop, but need something more full-sized and full-powered than a netbook.

Pipe Dream: Phone-less Palm Pre

Evan came up with this idea while we were talking last week, and I instantly thought it was golden. If the Pre is an “iPhone-killer”, then a phone-less Pre (let’s call it a “Re”) is an “iPod Touch-killer”.

Requiem for the classic Kindle

Last week’s announcement of the Kindle 2 means that the first-generation Kindle is no longer being sold.  While the original Kindle had its flaws, its design was quite unique and will be missed by some.

Must have Mac apps

Last week, Evan compiled a list of mission-critical apps for his Windows XP install.  While I am not wiping my Mac anytime soon, I thought it would be a good idea to put together a list of applications that I consider crucial for the Mac.

LG Rhythm has circular touchscreen instead of button

I am a sucker for any alternative user interface, especially if it involves additional screens and touch.  The LG Rhythm has both those things covered.

My Clean Install Dilemma

As many computer users know, sometimes you’ve just installed and uninstalled so many programs that your computer just isn’t as speedy as it once was. I started my Vista experience experiment roughly 2 years ago and I can say there have been some good times, but I can’t deny that there were some rough spots too. It’s come to the point where I have four options for my clean install: XP, Vista, Windows 7 (Beta) and Ubuntu. Read on to find out which way I’ll go and why…comments might …
