Stay on task at school with myHomework

myHwkIconLast year for Back to School, we told you about Schoolhouse, a very neat homework/grade manager.  This year, we found a new program called myHomework, which even has a mobile version for iPhone/iPod touch.  Now you can even manage your homework away from your computer.

Unfortunately, the latest version of Schoolhouse is too buggy for us to recommend.  That spurred us on to look for a replacement.  While myHomework does not duplicate all the functionality of Schoolhouse, it covers the basics while adding a few tricks of its own.

The biggest feature missing from myHomework is a grade tracker.  There is no function for putting in the weights for different assignments and having it calculate your grade in the class at the moment.  This could be a deal-breaker for some students out there, but it is not overly important to me.

myhomeworkmyHomework does have a very slick interface, as well as a good visual representation of what is overdue, coming up and in progress.  The simple, clean interface is easy to use, so students have no excuse not to keep track of their work.  The interface for the iPhone and Mac apps look pretty much the same so there will be no confusion when switching between the two.

The ace up the sleeve for this program is its ability to sync between the iPhone app and the desktop application.  Unfortunately, this process is not as straightforward as it could be, although it can be done wirelessly.  To sync, you go to the Options tab (on either the iPhone or Mac app, it works both ways) and choose Transfer myHomework.  You are prompted for a password and then given a User ID.  Your data is stored on the myHomwork server, so privacy nuts will probably freak out about this.  Back at your desk or on your iPhone, you then go to Options and Download myHomework Data.  Putting in your User ID and password will get you the data you had previously uploaded.  This process may sound a little convoluted and it is, but I’d rather have this option than not.

With the school year about to get in full swing, I am sure many people could benefit from adding this program into their lives.

This is a very great app. I downloaded it over the summer, however, I deleted it because I had no use for it.
Very stupid of me to do considering that as of now, every time you search for it on the iTunes App Store, it doesn’t show up. They’ve disabled it.

I’m so sick and tired of being sick and tired of apps that are only for macs. Not everyone wants to wear a black turtleneck while using overpriced but well designed products.
