Let Zamzar convert your files for you
In our line of work, Evan and I run into lots of strange file types. Instead of keeping a few different programs to handle all our conversion needs, we let the online service Zamzar take care of it.
There are a few different websites that will convert, for example, you .ico icon file into a .jpg JPEG, but I have found Zamzar to be the best. Zamzar supports a wide variety of file formats and will handle files up to 100MB for its free service. I have never had too much of a problem with Zamzar’s speed, but if you really want that file right away or do a lot of file conversion, there are a 3 tiers of paid service that provide enhanced service.
Zamzar can also convert files from a URL, which makes it very popular with folks who want to save a Youtube video. Like I said, Zamzar works on a wide variety of image, music, video, document, compression, and CAD formats. The only hole I could find in its support is for the iWork formats (.pages, .key, and .numbers). Other than that, Zamzar is a great choice next time someone sends you a .rm file when you have sworn not to put RealPlayer back on your computer.
