Samsung NC20: new netbook, different song
Samsung’s first netbook, the NC10, was about as bland and generic as possible for the netbook market. It had no distinguishing features whatsoever except for maybe above average battery life. The new NC20 changes that.
The NC20 is unique for two reasons. One, it has a 12.1″ screen, making it almost the size of a full laptop. The only other netbook with a screen this large is the Dell Inspiron Mini 12. The second reason the NC20 is so different is because it packs a 1.3GHz Via Nano U225 processor. That is a departure from almost every other netbook which uses Intel’s Atom chip. Some benchmarks have shown Via’s Nano to outperform the Atom while using less power, so I am intrigued to see how the NC20 performs.
The rest of the NC20 is pretty run of the mill: 120GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, webcam, and 3-in-1 card reader all in a pretty slim looking 3.3 lb package. Price and availability for the U.S. market is not yet known.
