Countdown to New Years: Day 10

09hondafitf341500As we count down to the new year, let us take a look back at some of the best moments of 2008.

However, it would be too easy for Evan and I to just pick the obviously memorable things (such as Firefox 3, new iPods, new MacBooks, the iPhone 3G, the T-mobile G1, etc).  Instead, we tried to pick some things that you may not have heard of when they were first announced, but that does not mean they do not deserve the recognition we are giving them.

We will be selecting one thing a day everyday until January 1st.  We start today with the Honda Fit.  This may seem like a bit of a non-traditional pick for us at JPT, mostly because it’s a car and not a gadget, but a closer inspection reveals that the Fit has many qualities we value here.

Given that the Tata Nano still has not gone into production, that leaves the Honda Fit as the best value in automobiles.  For just over $15,000, you get a sprightly hatchback that is versatile for its size, surprisingly filled with technology, and more fuel-efficient than any car that doesn’t have an electric motor in it.  The uplevel Fit Sport even has full iPod connectivity (the base model has an auxiliary jack) and optional in-dash navigation.

09hondafitr34500The Fit makes sense as both a young person’s first vehicle and as a second or third car for a family.  It is dependable and well-designed; offering just enough car to be useful and not to much so it is wasteful.

Needless to say, the Honda Fit is the car I would buy if I had the money to buy a new car.  Who knows, maybe this blogging thing will pan out.
