T-mobile G1: the first Googlephone

Luofei 24 September 2008 102 views One Comment

Yesterday, T-mobile announced their new G1 smartphone. This is the first smartphone based on Google’s Android mobile platform. The G1 is thicker than the iPhone 3G but has a smaller footprint. It has a touchscreen like the iPhone, but also has a slide-out keyboard.

The G1 is also one of the few cellphones available for T-mobile’s fledgling 3G network, but it also has Wi-Fi.  The design is certainly not as inspired as the iPhone, but T-mobile’s cheaper plans could draw some customers.

T-mobile is selling the G1 for $179 with a two-year contract, and $399 without contract.

Head over to Engadget for full specs.
