So you’d like to…start your own blog (Part 3)
So by now you’ve got your own domain and a host but you don’t know what to do with it. If you are us, then the first thing you do is install WordPress, the platform we use at Just Plain Tech. The good hosting services will have a 1-click install feature, GoDaddy does this and so do Blue Host and DreamHost. Now WordPress isn’t your only option, but it is the only one I’ve tried. Other platforms include MovableType, which from what I’ve read is more difficult to use than WordPress.
Once WordPress is up you can start writing posts right away. The default theme is nice but a little bland so you’re probably going to want to change it almost immediately to give your blog some personality. The theme we use is called arthemia and it’s awesome, there’s a pay version but it’s a little out of our price range at the moment. There are plenty of great free themes out there so your website can look good on a budget, a quick google search will find you at least a hundred themes.
