New Dell Latitudes announced

As widely expected, Dell has finally announced the new E series line of Latitude corporate laptops to replace the previous D series. The Latitude line is popular among large business and colleges, so this could the next computer for many a college student or businessman. The new E series looks much nicer and less dull than the outgoing D series.
The new laptops have a nice amalgam of the latest features borrowed from other manufacturers in classic Dell form. These include but are not limited to backlit keyboard, external SATA port, USB PowerShare to charge devices even when the computer is turned off, and a pre-boot OS called Latitude ON.
The new Latitudes come in a variety of sizes and models and are even available in different colors. Overall, at least so far, the new Latitudes look at a solid overhaul of the entire line and add some degree of design flair without any compromises. Here’s a rundown of the new models:
E4200/4300: These are the thin-and-light notebooks set to replace the D430. The 12″ E4200 is very light, starting at only 2.2 pounds, so it is a lot smaller than the outgoing model. The E4300 has a 13.3″ screen and is over a pound heavier, but has an internal optical drive in exchange.
E5400/5500: The budget option of the lineup, these will push out the D530/531. Available with 14.1″ and 15.4″ screens these provide a great option for folks who want Centrino 2 without having to shell out too much money.
E6400/6500: The heart of the line, these notebooks replace the D630/830. These notebooks offer better graphics than the E5400/5500 and lighter, more durable case designs. Latitudes have always been seen as the computer for office drones, while ThinkPads were the laptop of choice for the executives. These latest models could begin to change that old stereotype.
E6400 ATG: This is the semi-ruggedized version of the E6400. It isn’t completely ruggedized like the Panasonic Toughbooks, but it does have upgraded resistance to water, dust, extreme temperatures, and vibration.
The E5400/5500 and E6400/6500 are available immediately, while the E4200/4300 and E6400 ATG are coming soon.
