These rumors have been kicking around for awhile now, but there are some new developments as of late.  Also, I have spoken with certain resellers who provided some insight into a possible timeline for the release of possible new iPods and MacBooks.

Apple usually announces new iPods around the end of September to be ready for the holiday season.  Expect the same this year.  Most likely it will happen after September 15th, as that is when the Free iPod with a Mac back to school promotion ends.  Recent rumors say the new nano will be taller and less wide with a display to match.  The proportions will be rather like the flash Zune.  One person has also claimed that the design of the new nano will be “curvy”.  The new iPod touch will probably not look all that different, but more storage and some new features is likely.

As for the new MacBooks, I have heard from a reseller that they do not expect a new MacBook to be available until early October.  This was based off what they of the supply of laptops available.  Again, it would make sense for Apple to release something after the back to school promotion ends.

It is clear to anyone who follows technology that new iPods and MacBooks are coming soon.  It is just a matter of when.  Right now, the entire iPod line is being pressed by the new low price of the iPhone 3G.  Expect the next nano and touch to either increase storage and features or drop the price.  The latest update to iTunes had a placeholder for “iPod Touch 2,1″ in its code.  The current touch is version 1,1.

Additionally, Intel just announced its next generation laptop processors, so Apple needs to update its laptops to avoid falling behind the competition.  Last month, Apple warned resellers to stock up on its laptops.  That can sometimes be an indication that they are clearing out warehouses in preparation for a new product.
